Martha Surrett

Martha Jane Snead Surrett, 75, of Chattanooga passed away on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014. Martha was born on Feb. 5, 1939 in Rockingham, N.C., to John and Nell Snead. She graduated from Rockingham High School in 1957, attended Wingate Junior College and graduated from Carson-Newman College in 1962. She worked for Brainerd Baptist Kindergarten and Chattanooga State Child Development Center. She was a long-time member of Brainerd Baptist Church. Martha is survived by her three daughters, Leslie (Tony) Wilson, Cristi (David) Beckner and Kerri (David) Latil; two grandsons, Tim (Leah) Wilson and Daniel Wilson; three sisters and one brother, Catherine Ballard, of Nashville, N.C., Joyce Bridges, of Rockingham, N.C., Brenda Snead, of Chattanooga, and Michael (Eunice) Snead, of Alexandria, Va.; along with a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, LeRoy; brothers and sisters Virginia Snead, Monroe Snead, Mildred Snead, Doris Snead Coble, Gray Snead Meggs and Glen Snead. The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. today at the East Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today in the Chapel. The service will be led by Rev David Beckner and David Latil. A graveside service at White Pine Cemetery will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in White Pine, Tenn., led by Rev. Dr. Tony Wilson. In lieu of flowers the family requests that gifts be made to The Oak Project, Chattanooga, or The Jamaica Missions Team of White Oak Baptist Church, Chattanooga.
