Velma Guess

Velma Hefley Guess, 84, originally of Jackson, Tenn., and later Signal Mountain, passed away Monday, Sept.15, 2014, in Alexandria, La. She was a member of Signal Mountain Baptist Church, where she was very active in her Sunday school class. She loved painting, making dolls and ceramics, cooking and making clothes for her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Guess; parents, Ernest H. and Bertha Alma Hefley; sisters, Pauline Carloss, Mary Catherine Ross and Joyce Cox. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, James Ernest Guess; daughter, Sandra Couvillon and husband, Brian; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial services for James and Velma Guess will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Signal Mountain Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at noon.
