Regina Burns

Regina Ann "Jean" Burns, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014. Jean was born in Etowah, Tenn., the daughter of Lewis and Marie Galloway. She was raised in Etowah and moved to Chattanooga as a young mom. Jean was a lifelong animal lover and a passionate advocate for animal care. She served for many years as the veterinary assistant at the Brainerd Animal Hospital and donated countless hours outside of her career assisting injured and homeless animals in Chattanooga. Jean is survived by her loving companion of many years, Mack Atkins; daughters, Angela Burns Beairsto and husband, Kevin, Wendy Burns Markham and husband, Curtis; granddaughters, Madeline Beairsto, Lindsay Markham and Delaney Markham; and grandsons, Joseph Beairsto, Richard Patrick Beairsto, and Christian Beairsto; brother, Mike Galloway and his wife, Gail; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 7555 Ooltewah-Georgetown Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Chattanooga Hospice for the compassionate care shared with Jean and her daughters during her stay and also thank Jean's dear friends for the kindness and support they provided during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to fund homeless and abused animals may be made in Jean's memory to Brainerd Animal Hospital, 5950 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
