The National Labor Relations Board has scheduled a secret-ballot election when registered nurses at CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga will decide whether to be represented by a national nurses union.
The union election is set to be held on Nov. 17-18 in a boardroom of the hospital at 2525 Desales Ave., according to a notice of election. The ballots will be counted after the final session.
About 700 nurses are eligible to vote. If a majority of votes cast favor representation by California-based National Nurses United, the hospital would be required to bargain in good faith once the union is certified.
In a flier, the union said its platform includes adequate staffing support, protections from technology replacing nurses, a fair and competitive wage scale and protection of benefits. The union says it represents more than 225,000 members, including more than 17,000 registered nurses at 32 CommonSpirit hospitals.
